Relationships
What is Relationship Counselling?
Relationship counselling is when two people in relationship – whether they be in a partnership, a marriage, members of a family or a close friendship – wish to look at themselves and their relationship with each other.
…Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! It is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;– Sonnet 116, William Shakespeare
All relationships hit bumpy roads.
To borrow from a song … “There will be trouble ahead”. If there wasn’t trouble it would not be a normal relationship.
Sometimes it is more than trouble, where relationships undergo more serious blocks, failures and ruptures.
My aim as a counsellor is to facilitate
• Communication
• Listening
• Understanding
• Empathy
With these four components, and time and space, what is happening in the relationship becomes clearer. This fosters the chances of finding the right solution for the individuals within the relationship. This may or may not be to stay together.
I have qualifications in
• Working with Couples
• The Person-Centred Approach to Relationship Counselling
• Couples Therapy for Depression.
